I'm sure I'll say this about all of the fresh foods we're making for you, but Kinpira-Gobo is one of my all-time favorite foods. It is carrots and burdock julienned and sautéed until it reaches the perfect balance of crunchy and tender. I love it as a veggie accompaniment to any meal or as a quick pick-me-up snack throughout the day. It's rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants so we should all probably be eating more kinpira every day. (Well, maybe not me. I definitely eat a lot, haha).
Please enjoy this cold or room temperature. You can eat it out of your fridge for days so stock up and enjoy it all the time. (PRO-TIP: Shake up the kinpira in the container before you eat it!)
Kinpira is a preparation style and can be made using different root vegetables, not just carrots or burdock. It's been around since the early 1800s and continues to be a staple in Japanese households. Kinpira is named after a famous fictional character, Kinpira of Sakata, who was the son of the mighty and legendary Kintaro of Sakata. Kinpira was known for his superhuman strength and feats of bravery, and it was said that eating kinpira would make you strong like Kinpira-sama.
