Erik and I love this gyuudon. It's thin-sliced beef that's stewed with caramelized onions in a sweet and savory dashi. You eat it over rice and it's so hearty and delicious! It tastes similar to sukiyaki or niju-jaga, if you've had either of those before :) If you've been to Yoshinoya (the birthplace of gyuudon), you know they top it with beni-shoga (red pickled ginger). We've opted to serve ours with our shiitake mushroom pickles though, cuz, you know, beef and mushrooms :)
Online orders of Gyuudon are delivered cold. Please heat this up before you eat it. The meat can be microwaved or reheated gently in a saucepan on the stove. You can microwave the rice or reheat it with a tiny splash of water in a rice cooker or in a pot with a lid on low heat.
Hot Gyuudon is available for takeout by ordering direct from our kitchen during takeout hours. Check out our takeout menu here.
The gyuudon will arrive with a side of rice. The size option refers to the portion of beef. The 8 oz portion of beef is pretty hearty for one person, says Erik.
