This mask is made by Murakami Pile, a high-quality towel making company in Imabari, Japan. It's made with their house-woven tailored-gauze. The cotton is kneaded with binchotan charcoal which gives the mask its color and is said to give the mask antimicrobial qualities. The fabric is so soft and breathable, a quality you would expect from Imabari-made textiles. This is a 3D mask (not a flat mask) and fits both me and my husband. *Note: it does get wrinkly, so either iron it, or leave it folded under a heavy book for a nice, crisp look
Imabari is known for its towel production, in part because they are on the 88-temple Shikoku Pilgrimage route (and hospitality is of the utmost importance when hosting travelers) and also because of the underground water source they use. The high-quality water helps Imabari towel makers achieve the soft textures and vivid colors they are known for and the strict standards established by the Shikoku Towel Industrial Association ensure the high quality of products.
Made in Imabari, Japan
*Please wash in a mesh laundry bag
