The translucent, frosted "Snowstorm" sake set by Hirota Glass company, works stunning, matte-textured glass into beautiful, traditional curved shapes, more often seen in Japanese traditional ceramics. The pitcher features three depressions that are designed to form beautifully to a light pinching grip. The cups, although sturdy, bear certain weightlessness. The soft matte texture is lovely on the lips. Light like snow. I adore the translucency of this set. There are small white flecks throughout, and the way that light plays through the glass when it's holding sake is mysterious and gorgeous.
This set consists of a pitcher (tokkuri) and two cups (ochoko). The pitcher is 15cm tall and holds roughly 160ml. The cups are roughly 5.5 x 4.8cm and each holds roughly 50ml. The cups are intentionally designed with subtle, natural variations.
Hirota Glass has been producing hand made glassware that innovates while staying grounded in traditional Japanese craftsmanship and aesthetics since 1899.
