This tasty and refreshing yuzu soda (yuzu = Japanese aromatic citrus, kind of between a lemon and orange) is sold in Japan as a non-alcoholic version of popular canned "chu-hai" cocktails. Since these awesome canned cocktails sadly don't exist in the States, I could have just said that this was a really good, bubbly, refreshing, not-too-sweet Japanese yuzu soda, and that would be just fine for so many people. But now that you know that this is a very particular sort of soft drink, targeted for adults, doesn't that make Choya Yowanai Yuzu Soda that much more interesting? On one hand this is just a great soda that tastes like fruit which one doesn't normally see in American sodas, but is common in Japan. On the other hand, in order for this soda to serve it's greater purpose to the average consumer in Japan, it needs to taste and appear sophisticated enough for adults to want to consume it around other adults in social-drinking situations. And it does! That's a lot of subtext for what is otherwise just a really good soda!
