This is the industrial standard for shichimi togarashi, the Japanese 7-spice blend.
Originally, shichimi togarashi was a blend based on Chinese herbs and philosophy and was sold for its medicinal qualities. These days people eat it more for the flavor and aromatics that it adds to food. Although every blend is proprietary and slightly different, they generally follow the formula of 2 spices for spice and 5 for aromatics. This blend uses chili pepper and sanshou (Japanese pepper) for spice and orange peel, black sesame seed, white sesame seed, ginger, and seaweed for aromatics. It's not super spicy though! Shichimi Togarashi is imperative for enjoying udon or soba. It's also amazing on grilled meats, veggies, eggs, fish, dressings. Now that I think about it, it's really good on everything ;)
